![]() ![]() ![]() The idea here is that if mothers want to raise feminist daughters, they must embrace feminist ideals themselves. That premise (as a woman) should be “I matter. Her first “feminist tool” is to have a premise. In the introduction, before she begins laying down her suggestions, Adichie offers two feminist tools which serve as a sort of springboard for the rest of the text. Her hope is that this work will contribute to a more gender-equal world. ![]() As Adichie characterizes it, gender roles are like a straitjacket designed to restrict women’s freedom and limit their potential. The purpose of the manifesto is to undo this gender inequality by raising girls to reject traditional gender roles and expectations. The book references ongoing gender inequality in both countries and draws comparisons between the two cultures. The book addresses the dual context of both Adichie and Ijeawele’s home country of Nigeria and Adichie’s adopted home country of the United States. Adichie’s response forms the basis of this manifesto, which was first published by Knopf Publishers in 2017. Ijeawele just gave birth to a baby girl, Chizalum, and asked Adichie for advice on how to raise her to be a feminist. Written by Nigerian author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the work is the product of a correspondence between Adichie and her friend Ijeawele. ![]()

The bourne identity book6/9/2023 ![]() ![]() No one can help him – except the one woman who once wanted to escape him.Īs a big fan of the Jason Bourne film trilogy starring Matt Damon (let’s pretend the other two didn’t happen), I was excited to read the original text for the first time. In a world of murderous conspirators, he’s fighting for survival as he tries to uncover the layers of his buried past. Suddenly Bourne is the target of assassins, and at the heart of a deadly puzzle. And on the film is a number which leads to a bank account in Zurich, the name Jason Bourne. Implanted beneath the skin on his hip is a frame of microfilm. Evidence shows that plastic surgery has altered his face. And he may not have a future.Īll he knows is that he was fished out of the Mediterranean, his body riddled with bullets. ![]() ![]() (originally published in 1980 by Grafton Books) Publishing Info: 2004 by Orion Books Ltd. ![]()

Kingkiller book 36/9/2023 ![]() ![]() Instead of a 2008 release date like the fans were promised the book was pushed back four years. Unfortunately, this books release date was pushed back several times due to reasons i do not understand. I couldn't wait for the wise man's fear, i couldn't wait to see what questions would be answered, how they'd be answered, what new riddles would pop up within the pages. ![]() When i heard about the completion of the novels and the general praise the book was getting i decided to pick it up, of course i completely fell in love with the books cliche yet beautifully written story, the characters were deep and full of life, i was really in love with the book. Of course i will buy the book and i more than likely will enjoy the book but that won't help me to like the book as i did with the first.įirst let me say before the release of the name of the wind, Patrick Rothfuss announced the completion of all three books, the three books in this trilogy were completed, the three books who would write for this series had been finished, he planned to release these books in one-year intervals, as he announced, completely understandable, it's almost tradition for not just authors but for many other forms of entertainment to release a new form or medium for enjoyment to release new models at yearly intervals. Seeing as the book has yet to release and there are already hundreds of 5 star ratings i find it only fair that a book that has enraged me to this point deserves a 1 star. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() It was these characteristics of her writing that won over critics and readers during her lifetime, and beyond. All of her work-whether they’re poems, essays, stories, or novels-display a deep empathy for the outsider, an understanding of human loneliness, and a fearlessness towards exploring “difficult” subjects. Whatever you think of McCullers as an individual, it’s inarguable that she was an unrivaled literary talent. In 1967, at the age of 50, she passed away. As McCullers gained a reputation as a master of Southern Gothic literature-and befriended Tennessee Williams and Truman Capote-her private life and health continued to deteriorate. Just after her breakout debut, she suffered from a series of minor strokes, turned to alcohol, and entered a tempestuous, on-again-off-again marriage with a fellow writer. Success was swift and major: A 19-year-old McCullers was first published in a 1936 issue of Story magazine, and she wrote her magnum opus, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, four years later.īut not everything was rosy in McCullers' life. ![]() ![]() Her pianist dreams were abandoned when, after a bout of illness, she discovered a penchant for the written word. McCullers's father was a jeweler and a watch repairman, and her mother worked for the jeweler who had employed her father before he opened his own store. As a young woman of the 1930s, she left the South to pursue a career in music-a passion she shared with one of her most famous heroines-and headed to Juilliard in New York City. The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter (1940) was her first novelpublished when she was only twenty-three years oldand her most autobiographical. Carson McCullers, née Lula Carson Smith, was born in Georgia in 1917. ![]()
